पौराणिक व एतिहासिक संदर्भ लाभलेल महाबळेश्वर हे महाराष्ट्रातील पर्यटकांच आवडत पर्यटन स्थळ आहे. ''महाबळेश्वरच्या जटांत व पारघाटाच्या ओठात'' शिवाजी महाराजांनी बुलंद किल्ला बांधला तो म्हणजे ''प्रतापगड''. छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी स्वराज्यावर चालून आलेल्या अफजलखानाचा वध याच किल्ल्याच्या पायथ्याशी केला. महाबळेश्वरच्या सानिध्यात असलेला हा किल्ला आजही सुस्थितीत उभा आहे. प्रतापगडाच्या अर्ध्या उंचीपर्यंत जाणारा गाडीमार्ग, किल्ल्यावर फिरण्यासाठी बनवलेल्या सिमेंट रूंद पायर्याड, रस्ते व किल्ल्यावर उपलब्ध असलेली खान पान सेवा यामुळे किल्ल्यावर पर्यटकांचा मोठ्या प्रमाणात वावर असतो. #Pratapgad literally 'Valour Fort' is a large fort located in Satara district, in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra. Significant as the site of the Battle of Pratapgad, the fort is now a popular tourist destination. Pratapgad fort is located 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Poladpur and 23 kilometres (14 mi) west of Mahabaleshwar, a popular hill station in the area. The fort stands 1,080 metres (3,540 ft) above sea level and is built on a spur which overlooks the road between the villages of Par and Kinesvar.
